A BRIEF DESCRIPTION ABOUT THE WAYS OF YOGA

Om Joyful Yoga is a sacred space which was created 8 years ago and has been nothing short of a healing magical place for the community. We love to welcome those who are being called to Yoga for the first time, as well as more experienced Yogis. The Sanctuary is open and spacious, high ceilings, no mirrors, open air, and clean. We offer ongoing classes, workshops, teacher trainings, retreats, private sessions and a beautiful boutique full of mystical treasures.

Vinyasa Yoga

This kind of yoga is sometimes called ashtanga vinyasa or power yoga. It’s intense and fast-paced. It’s designed to build your endurance and strength. You do a series of postures in 1 continuous, flowing movement.

Hatha Yoga

This form of yoga is the most popular in the U.S. It’s known as the yoga of force. It emphasizes strengthening and purifying the body. It involves physical postures (asanas) and breathing techniques (pranayama).

Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga style classes consist of a series of long-held, passive floor poses that mainly work the lower part of the body – the hips, pelvis, inner thighs, and lower spine. The poses are held for up to five minutes or longer.

Restorative Yoga

Restorative Yoga helps provide both physical and mental balance, to prevent stress through the use of props, which allow you to hold poses longer, giving you all the benefits of deep, passive stretching.

Yoga is an ancient practice which celebrates a timeless truth. Yoga is challenging, you have to show up for yourself and in the ongoing practice of Yoga you create the effort to become more effortless in life’s circumstances.

Your body will receive the strength, stamina and flexibility to become organically healthy and strong. Your mind will become more peaceful, spacious and clear. The postures are the therapy, the breath is the medicine, together they create the alchemy of transformation.

Why Om Joyful Yoga?

Yoga increases mobility so that you can bring more ease to your movement and don't feel so stuck in your body. Physical activity increases the motility and mobility of the organs and muscles, allowing them to perform their natural detoxification process. Deep yogic breathing enhances the function of the lungs.

Live in the present

Most of us spend the majority of our time thinking about the past or the future (regretting, worrying, planning), or checking out completely into the land of cell phones and social media. Many of the benefits of yoga stem from the ability to unplug and focus on what’s going on in your body and in your life right now. Happiness can only be found here and now.

Yoga reduces perceived stress and anxiety, which in turn reduces the physical effects of stress on the body. By encouraging relaxation, yoga helps to lower the levels of the stress hormones such as cortisol. Related benefits include lowering blood pressure and heart rate, improving digestion and boosting the immune system.

enhance proprioception

We only get one body to live in, shouldn’t you get to know it better? Yoga has you turn your mind inward to what your body is feeling right now. Where are your legs and arms? What are they doing? Which muscles are active? This practice develops you skills of proprioception, which in turn leads to things like better posture and better balance.

Lydia Lizano

Yoga Psychology Expert

Raising self-awareness as a way of life, Lydia Lizano is a Yoga/Meditation Instructor (RYT 500), Licensed Marriage + Family Therapist (MT1985), Educator, and Public Speaker. Utilizing her inventive combination of Yoga, Psychology, and Stress Management Skills, she works with clients and students in both private and group settings, to help them achieve optimal individual transformation and personal growth. Lydia is the current owner of Om Joyful Yoga. She fell in love with Yoga upon taking her first class and instantly developed a “sincere” relationship with the practice incorporating it into everyday life. Lydia’s practice is informed by the idea that Yoga is not just what we do on our mats, but the way we live our lives. She believes that we are all life-long students and continues to pursue education in Yoga and the Healing Arts. This ongoing process of learning is what provides the fresh insights that inspire her teaching. Healthy breathing, alignment, and balanced energy flow are consistent points of focus in her classes. Lydia’s teaching style is intuitive and nourishes the hidden strengths of her students while at the same time challenging them to reach beyond their perceived limitations. In her classes, she uses a mixture of Yoga Psychology and deep breath work, allowing students to find Peace, Love, and Compassion as they grow both on and off the mat with the ultimate goal of living life to their fullest potential.

Joy Michelle

Healing Arts Practitioner

Joy’s eclectic classes are open to ALL. If it’s your first class, welcome. If you have been practicing longer, great! Joy draws from 26 years experience of practicing and teaching Yoga. Through studying many “styles” of  Yoga and different philosophies of life, she has created multidimensional journeys for all who enter the space she holds. Let us together, honor the meeting of science and spiritually both ancient and current. Let us together, release the stress we hold: physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and socially. Let us together, become a clear vessel of health and vitality, peace and love, so spirit flows and shines through. Joy is the original founder and creator of Om Joyful Yoga, she has graduated hundreds of RYT 200 and RYT 300 students through the Joyful School of Yoga. She is also certified with the KRI Institute, is a Reiki Master, and  Metaphysician. Joy holds group classes, private sessions, workshops, retreats, and plans to travel the world sharing the magic of Yoga. The peace, light and JOY within me, honors the peace, light and JOY within you all! 

Sharikay Sloboda

International Yoga Teacher

Sharikay Sloboda E-RYT 500, RCYT, YACEP Sharikay spent her youth in sunny South Florida and the first part of adult life working in the worlds of fine art and marketing. The corporate city life and polished pavements of Chicago, New York and London turned into more than a decade of life traveling dusty African roads, beaches of Central America and ancient alley ways of Asia. The end result…a radical shift in life’s focus and future. Amidst this shift, a new found committed connection to yoga was made, that has stayed in the forefront of life. With an unquenchable enthusiasm for learning and life, Sharikay has learned much from her dedicated students and talented teachers from around the globe in many disciplines – including Hatha, Iyengar, Anusara, Ashtanga, Budokon, Acro, Ayurveda, Vinyasa, Partner, Pre-Natal, Yin and Children’s Yoga. The journey spans from South Florida to Singapore, from Nicaragua to Hong Kong, Costa Rica to Jakarta and from Bali to Bangkok – her most recent home base. A Yoga Alliance E-RYT 500, RCYT and CEP, Sharikay is a ‘big kid’ at heart who holds space for her students (no matter the age!) to practice with integrity, intelligence and authentic inquiry helping them discover their own inspiration, courage and clarity. She has been teaching adults at Yoga Elements Studio in Bangkok and is Director of Incy Wincy Yoga Thailand, managing & training a talented team of teachers, and creating & supervising kids and teen yoga programs at Bi-lingual & International schools.

Cindy Buchanan

Restorative Yoga Training

Cindy graduated from the Joyful School of Yoga 200 hr. teacher training program in August of 2016. Through this all inclusive training she was introduced to the extensive and rewarding benefits of the Restorative Yoga practice. She then went on to study Restorative Yoga under the direction of Joy and graduated from The Restorative Yoga Training program in February of 2017. Since then, Cindy has taught gentle Hatha and Restorative Yoga through private sessions, within Montessori schools, and at local dance and yoga studios. She is absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to share the practice within the same walls that nurtured her along this life altering path, with all of the other glorious souls that attend the Om Joyful studio. Cindy’s prior life experience included graduating as a dance major from the Boston Conservatory followed by many years as a performer and a dance teacher. She uses this prior knowledge of body mechanics and movement to constantly inform her yoga practice. She is also a wife and the mother to two amazing boys that keep her inner child alive and allow for her heart’s fullest expression. Constantly grateful and always learning, she is on the journey of a lifetime, to the state of bliss that is the soul.
